Hughes has yet to be located, despite the fact that the Madera County Sheriff’s investigators have been able to piece together the scene thanks to the clues.

The information provided by Hughes’ niece indicates that in late June, Hughes went on a solo camping trip near Johnson Meadows.

The authorities discovered her deserted campsite and got in touch with her family after discovering identification paperwork among her personal effects at the abandoned encampment.

On July 6, campers discovered Hughes’ silver Saab near Chiquito Creek, appearing to have collided with a tree.

Over the Fourth of July weekend, several hikers reportedly noticed Hughes walking about the area.

“She was barefoot and had a bruise on her face,” MCSO public relations officer Deputy Sarah Jackson told Sierra News Online.

According to Jackson, witnesses asked Hughes if she needed medical treatment, but she declined.

How and when did officials find her?

On July 5, deputies from the Madera County Sheriff’s Office discovered that Sandra’s campground in the Johnsons Meadow region of the forest was in a chaotic state.

Things were strewn over everywhere, giving the impression that her vehicle and possessions had been thrown out without any consideration.

Ashley remarked that the condition of the campsite was quite strange and that she would never allow such a state to exist on her property. Even anything as insignificant as a piece of trash lying around would irritate her.

Ashley asserted that Hughes was highly organized and depicted her as someone who ‘loved to move about a lot’ because she did not have any children from either of her two prior marriages.

Hikers reported seeing Sandra barefoot and bruised on July 4. They left her alone after she declined their help.

On July 5, investigators spotted Hughes’ silver Saab in Chiquito Creek north of the campsite.

The sound indicated that it hit a tree at less than 20 mph before rolling into the ravine.

Canine teams, officers and volunteers from over six sheriff’s agencies, the California Highway Patrol, the Governor’s Office of Emergency Services, and California Air National Guard aircraft searched the forest on foot and in the air. Location dominated the search. Sandra was absent.

On Sunday, August 9, two hunters discovered a woman leaning against a tree near Road 5S01, in the vicinity of Chiquito Creek, close to Portuguese Overlook. Additionally, they came across her.

She did not attempt to make contact with them, wave them down, or show worry.

Upon their return, they found a missing persons flyer for her and were able to identify her from it.

They then informed the authorities. She has lost some weight since the last time we saw her in public.
