Teddy Riley Wiki Biography
Edward Theodore Riley was born on October 8, 1967 in Harlem, New York, USA, and is a singer, instrumentialist, record producer and song writer. Teddy Riley started his career in 1984, and since then he has become very successful and known worldwide. Teddy is perhaps best known and praised for popularizing a new music genre, named New Jack Swing, of which he is ‘The King’.
So just how rich is Teddy Riley? Recently, sources have estimated that Teddy’s net worth is $80 million, the majority of it having been accumulated from his various activities in the music industry
Teddy Riley Net Worth $80 Million
Teddy Riley spent his childhood in Harlem: when he was five years old, Teddy started playing various instruments in church. At the age of 14, Riley began collaborating with local record producer Gene Griffin, and formed the band Kids at Work, making rap music. However the band soon split up, but three years later Teddy became more notable when he produced Kool Moe Dee`s 12 single Go See the Doctor, which entered the Billboard Hot 100, consequently increasing Teddy Riley’s early net worth.
Teddy was one of the leaders of the R&B band Guy, formed in 1987. It was also the time when the new music genre New Jack Swing was born. This genre is reflected in such songs as My Prerogative by Bobby Brown, I Want Her by Keith Sweat, and Just Got Paid by Johnny Kemp, all of which boosted Teddy’s net worth, as did Teddy’s collaborations with Big Daddy Kane, Jane Child, The Winans, and The Jacksons, particularly when he co-produced Michael Jackson`s album Dangerous. Riley worked on such songs as In the Closet, Jam, and Remember the Time. Dangerous sold around 32 million copies, and is considered to be one of the most successful albums of New Jack Swing. Guy stopped its performances in 1992, having released two albums: Guy (1988) and The Future (1990). In 2000 Guy III was released.
In 1991 Teddy formed another group – Blackstreet. Its hits include No Diggity along with Dr. Dre and Queen Pen, Girlfriend/Boyfriend together with Janet Jackson, Ja Rule and Eve, and Don`t Leave Me. Such collaborations with famous singers helped Teddy to add to his net worth. Moreover, Teddy worked along with the Spice Girls` member Melanie B, helping her to release her solo album Hot. In particular, he worked on the production of such songs as ABC 123, Pack Your S**t, and I Believe. Riley also contributed to the production of one of Lady Gaga`s albums, in particular the track Teeth.
Teddy Riley also possessed a recording studio in Virginia Beach, however, it was destroyed by fire in 2008. Thus, it can be seen that in recent years Teddy has been working more as a producer than as a singer, so producing records has also become the main source of Teddy Riley’s net worth.
Teddy Riley keeps his personal life rather private; Teddy’s partner is Donna Roberts. He has eight children.
